Our Mission
This organization is established by the AFL-CIO as a membership organization for Trade Unionists who are united around the goal of promoting the needs of Asian Pacific American Workers. This organization is committed to develop a comprehensive strategy to organize Asian Pacific Americans into Unions, and to promote the participation and leadership of Asian Pacific Americans within the Labor Movement. This organization is further dedicated to strengthening International Labor Solidarity, especially with Labor Unions of Asia and the Pacific.
Purpose
APALA Seattle’s purpose is to build power with & for AANHPI workers in organized labor and community through education/shared analysis, leadership development, and organizing to change structural inequities and create a just society.
Goals

Strengthen the two-way relationship with unions and community organizations that is intentional and focuses on mutual investment to enhance labor and community engagement.

Build the knowledge and political awareness of Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (ANHPI) workers' experiences and connection to global capital, locally and globally

Increase the membership of our APALA Seattle Chapter of active and engaged members
What We Do

Education Outreach
Educating Asian Pacific American workers and their communities about labor unions as well as issues that directly impact their communities (i.e. politics, labor laws, history, etc). We also encourage and provide education of other communities to our causes, issues, and projects for collaboration and understanding.

Training
Promoting and providing training for Asian Pacific Americans within the labor movement and Asian Pacific American communities

Leadership
Building up Asian Pacific Americans within the labor movement and Asian Pacific American communities to lead the change for the future

Empowerment
Of Asian Pacific Americans within the labor movement and Asian Pacific American communities to address the injustices they face and to stand up for their rights

Advocacy
Defending and advocating for the civil and human rights of Asian Pacific Americans, immigrants; undocumented, refugees, asylees, and all other people of color. We believe for showing up for our communities and others to express our beliefs and the work we find important and necessary

Collaboration
With community organizations and unorganized workers to advance AAPI justice. We also work to create collaboration between our communities and other communities of color in order to understanding and allyship. Developing ties with international labor organizations, especially with labor unions in Asia and the Pacific, and seeking to promote world peace
